WHY FREE SPACE UNDER THE BASE IS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD

As the seat has been designed for worst-case scenarios with a sofa, you may notice a clear space under the base of the seat in the case of a sharply angled sofa.

For consumers, the free space may cause concern about the stability of the seat, as other car seats usually come into contact with the sofa. However, this space is by no means a hazard.

The car seat is not rigid, but made of soft materials.

During a frontal collision - which is the most common source of serious injury to children - the car seat in any case encounters pressure from the forces of the accident, thus not giving stability or support to the car seat.
Therefore, even for car seats that are in contact with the car seat couch, the forces of the accident are distributed to its displacement leg and/or to the ISOfix system and then to the body of the car, and the rotation of the car seat is prevented by the displacement leg or the top tether.

WHAT THE REGULATION SAYS

The UN r 129 regulation does not require the seat to rest on the car's bench seat.

Instead, the regulation specifies that installation using the ISOfix system must be combined with a displacement leg or a top tether to prevent the seat moving forward in a frontal impact.

WHAT YOU CAN SEE IN THE CRASH TESTS

In some of the crash test videos you can see a slight pressure on the couch on the test bench, which gives the impression that the crash forces are actually distributed to the couch.

However, in this case, the displacement leg may push slightly into the floor of the car. Nevertheless, the actual forces that act during an accident are directed at the displacement leg and not at the car's couch.
